It was a marvelous day when TOOL, one of the most extraordinary unlikely accidents in music history, after years of resistance, announced that they would release their entire catalog on streaming services. Good news for us fans, but not that tempting for the artists. We all know Spotify offers bugger-all and, at most, a pat on the back per one million streams.
These four mysterious and cryptic boys have made themselves available to us. I revisited the entire discography without wasting any time. Otherwise, I had to carry those precious gems of albums only in my iTunes. What the band also did was boost their merch store with new hoodies and t-shirts. This is the part that, although benign and well-intentioned, opened a time warp the world did not need.
I see an increasing number of dads wearing TOOL shirts on public transportation and we cannot let TOOL become dad rock. Unfortunately, this is where the trend is going! Dads are wearing TOOL tees now.
We should make a distinction between those who should be allowed to purchase from a TOOL merch store and the others.
