Three notes real quick

I. On Maximo Park’s “Leave This Island”

I can relate to this song through a dual channel. First, it shares a similar beat with “The Captive Mind” by Helio Sequence. It was a favorite when it was released and had an appealing word-flow to it that despite sophisticated lyrics was actually easy to sing along to. And the second, doesn’t it sound a tad like Moby’s “Extreme Ways” in its vocal tone and spirit? If you disagree, how about you move your cursor to 2:30? I guess “Leave This Island” is the highlight of MP’s Too Much Information for me.

II. On Tears For Fears performing “Change” on Knebworth 1990

Among the first VHS tapes in our house was Knebworth 1990. That was an early gateway to Dire Straits, Genesis, Elton John, Cliff Richard, Clapton, Robert Plant, Status Quo, Paul McCartney, and Pink Floyd. And it started out with this terrific performance of “Change” by Tears For Fears. I literally watched this every day after school! Mom knows better!
